ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT – RUMSON COUNTRY CLUB

Rumson Country Club in Rumson, New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to join its golf course maintenance team. The Assistant Superintendent plays a key role in golf course and property management on a daily basis. This person will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to plan and execute all maintenance tasks and projects.  

Rumson Country Club is an 18-hole private golf facility located on the Jersey Shore. The membership amenities at Rumson CC are vast; not only an 18-hole championship course, but we possess a driving range, short game practice area, croquet court, tennis courts, paddle tennis courts, skeet and trap shooting range, pool, marina, and a yacht club. The club is located 40 minutes south of New York City, 90 minutes from Philadelphia, and 3 minutes from the beach.

We are in the middle of a Phase 1 Capital Project campaign that includes clubhouse renovation/expansion, new pump station, and utility upgrades. Phase 2 is currently in final planning/permitting stages that includes primarily Golf Course renovation work, marina dredging, and other infrastructure projects. It is an exciting time at Rumson Country Club.

INITIAL PRIORITIES OF POSITION:

  • Understand current maintenance practices, schedules, and the specific agronomic plan of the course.
  • Immediately engage in ongoing maintenance activities to get hands-on experience with the team.
  • Familiarize yourself with all areas, including greens, fairways, roughs, bunkers, water hazards, and the irrigation system.
  • Review existing course maps, irrigation layouts, and any plans for future changes or renovations.
  • Get to know each team member, understand their roles, strengths, and weaknesses; establish a rapport with the Golf Course Superintendent and other key staff

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Degree in Turf Management, Horticulture, Agronomy, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in golf course maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of the game of golf and the principles of agronomy.
  • Leadership experience and ability to manage a diverse team.
  • Proficiency with golf course maintenance equipment and irrigation systems.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Pesticide Application license preferred.
  • COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • $62,500 – $72,500, depending on experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate, 2-year or 4-year degree preferred.
  • Experience with cool season turf.
  • Work experience should include, minor crew supervision, daily planning, irrigation repair and installation, water management, chemical and fertilizer applications and calibration
  • College internship a plus
