Participation in Golf Course Renovations: Oakland Hills Country Club provides an opportunity for individuals to participate in golf course infrastructure that includes a Gil Hanse Master Plan of the Donald Ross North Course as well as a new maintenance facility slated to begin early next year. In addition, there is currently a new maintenance facility under construction with a targeted opening in March of 2025, and the new club house project has just recently begun.

Educational Opportunities: Oakland Hills Country Club provides educational opportunities for its grounds team, including scholarships up to $20K rewarded last year, and continuing education such as conferences and certificate programs. INITIAL PRIORITIES OF THE POSITION:

  • Get acclimated with the daily operations, team and dynamic work environment with 36-holes.
  • Develops skills to maintain a top 20 golf course including water management, fertilizer and chemical application, irrigation diagnostics and repair, course set up, and team management.
  • Involved in all facets of our agronomy program including fertilizer/chemical application, cutting edge water management, irrigation diagnostics and repair, course set up, and management of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • No educational requirements needed.
  • Golf course experience is a plus.
  • What we value most is a passion for the industry and a desire to enhance skills and advance within the profession.
  • We are seeking dedicated and motivated team members who share our passion for golf course management.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • $22 – $25 per hour, dependent on experience

ABOUT OAKLAND HILLS COUNTRY CLUB:

Beginning in 1916, with Walter Hagen as the first club pro, Oakland Hills—a 36-hole Donald Ross private club—has been the epitome of championship golf, hosting 17 major championships with tournament winners such as Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Ben Hogan who dubbed it, “The Monster,” on its Donald Ross designed South Course.

Recently, Gil Hanse, Jim Wagner and the Caveman Construction team restored the famed South Course to Donald Ross’ original masterpiece debuting in the summer of 2021 to rave reviews from the membership and the world—the restoration sky-rocketed the course from #72 in GOLF.com world rankings to #31 after less than a year.

The restoration included:

  • USGA spec greens
  • PrecisionAire vaulted units in 19 greens with the ability to heat, cool, vacuum and pressure
  • Complete reseed of all short grass playing surfaces with 007/777/L93-XD and Flagstick bentgrasses
  • New bunkers with Better Billy Bunker liner
  • New Rain Bird 2-wire irrigation system and Watertronics pump station
  • 23 miles of new drainage
  • Extensive tree removal
